The scholarship recipients, each excelling in academics and extra-curricular activities, were honored at an annual charity golf tournament on June 7, which raised nearly $50,000 for future scholarships. This is the seventh year that HHA’s non-profit affiliate, Houston Housing Resource (HHR), has raised scholarship funds to increase college affordability among students supported by HHA. The scholarship’s namesake, Carmen Villareal Orta, was committed to community involvement and improving the lives of Houstonians through education, business development and affordable housing.
